Commentary
The following bowlers represented Hampshire boys in the U18 Counties - 2009.
Andy Sykes, Ben Colwell, Dale Woodcock, Dom Buckley, Ryan Mitchener, Sam Brown and Sam Harvey Oconnell
Congratulations to Ryan who played in every game and averaged 205.5 over the whole tournament, Dale averaged
194.6 over the tournament. Great bowling guys!
The finals were played on a seriously hot weekend in July at Nottingham bowl, everyone was suffering with swollen
thumbs and lane conditions which whilst appearing long, provided a snappy back end and scoring was low on day 1.
Valuable lessons have been learnt including the size of thumb holes, the value of spares (we lost a few games by
only a few pins) and the serious value of team spirit (for both the team itself and the physicological effect on other
teams and players)
Final placing was 8th after a strong comeback over games 9 and 10 which took us to 5th. Unfortunately there was
some bad luck in game 11 and we dropped to 8th, some 600 pins short of 1st, as you can see the scoring was tight
